As a special gift from the band and I, here's last Saturday's
Christmas show, recorded live at the Canyon Club. Happy
holidays everyone! Enjoy it now, because it'll go offline
shortly after New Year's.
If it won't play,
you probably need to install or update RealPlayer. You can
do that here.

I've been getting a lot of e-mails recently asking whether Venice
will be traveling to Holland this Winter for some holiday shows,
as Kipp and Mark had both indicated last September that they would.
And those e-mails have increased substantially this week
due to an Enschede magazine's unauthorized announcement of a December
29 church show. Well, as much as I hate to be the bearer
of bad news, it falls on me now to make the official announcement
that there will be no Winter tour. Venice did try very hard
to make it happen, but unfortunately the pieces didn't fall into
place this time. Sorry. However, they will definitely
return later in 2006, most likely in support of a new album that
they've just begun writing songs for. So hey, that's something
exciting to look forward to, right?

A huge congratulations to Venice drummer Dann Gillen, who's just
announced he's going to be a dad. Expected due date of his
baby girl: March 7. Way to go, big guy! And
you too, Julie. Welcome to the wacky world of parenthood.
If you'd like
to offer your own congratulations, you can do so personally at
Friday's Pine Mountain Logs gig at the Belly Up, where Dann will
be playing with the band for the first time in quite a while.

A note from Michael Lennon:

Hey all you Venice kids.... Don't forget about the "Abbot Kinney Birthday bash" this Saturday, November 12. It will be a one of a kind event...never to come again. Not sold out yet but hurry because it just went out to all local Venice stores and restaurants. We want our friends there to see the history of our great city by the sea. Covered outdoor reception with slide show, full bar and food. Then, step inside the old bakery warehouse for a special Venice concert. It's a chance to go deeper into the background of the 4 Lennons from Venice....see where they grew up, see where Michael worked, etc.,etc. Sounds exciting, huh? Get your tickets here: |

For those of you who never had a chance to pick up Venice's "Blue
Paint" DVD (which is pretty much everybody outside of its
U.S. release), I've now posted the full version of the behind-the-scenes
featurette, "Making Blue Paint." Check that out

Exciting news from Michael Lennon:
|
Hello everybody out there in computer land! I'm eager to announce an upcoming and historical Venice show. On Saturday, November 12, 2005, 7pm-11pm, Venice will be playing a live concert in Venice, at the old Pioneer Bakery on Rose Ave.(5 blocks from the beach, west of Lincoln Blvd.). The event will celebrate the birthday of Abbot Kinney (founder of the City of Venice), the city of Venice Centennial, and most importantly, will raise money to build and install a new "Venice" light trestle. This is a lighted sign that will drape across Windward Ave. where it intersects with Pacific Ave. in Venice. You can see a picture of the old sign on the cover of our album, "Born and Raised." Also, the back of the B&R album shows us on barstools in the intersection where the sign will be placed......picture it above and behind us, hanging across the street from the buildings on either side. The sign will also be solar powered.......cool, huh? There is some interesting history behind this event. Pioneer Bakery was built in Venice in 1917, the same year that our Grandfather, Herbert Lennon, moved his family to Venice Beach. I and five other family members have worked at this bakery over the years. We have known the Garacochea family, who founded Pioneer Bakery, for the last 35 years. In December of this year, the bakery is due to be torn down in order to build a new bakery along with restaurants, shops, etc. So this event will also be a farewell to this historical building. Venice, the band, is a proud sponsor of this event, along with Pioneer bakery, the Venice Chamber of Commerce, the Venice Community Trust and the Venice Centennial committee. We feel privileged to give something back to our great city. If the above information is not enough to
entice you to take the plunge, then how about this? PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO LIMITED CAPACITY, TICKETS WILL BE ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS Tickets can ONLY be purchased by phoning (310)
281-3162, or by visiting the following website: Hope to see you there! |

Talk: "We're so excited about our little upcoming tour.
Besides the promo 5 song CD we have available, I'm going
to have a new solo CD. It's not my real solo CD, 'Dance
or Cry,' but 14 or 15 songs that I've written myself (plus 2 Monroe
Jones songs and one I wrote with Chris Horvath). It's like
the Venice "Garage Demos," but it's called: 'Mark
Lennon - The Demo Sessions.' It should be available in about
a month, I hope." The CD will be sold on Mark's webpage
and on CD Baby. Watch this space for further information.

At long last, we're proud to make the following announcement:
![]() After many performances together in & around Los Angeles through the years, John Vester & Mark Lennon are taking their show on the road for the first time & will be touring in Holland September 8-18th. THE JOHN VESTER MARK LENNON 2 VOICES, 1 GUITAR Concert Tour will feature new, recent & older works of both American artists.
John Vester, originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, started playing in bands there in the early 70s, moving to L.A. in 1978. For the next 20 years, he worked in L.A. as a singer/songwriter/guitarist developing his craft --- finally delivering his first cd in 1998: My Heart Is In Your Hands, followed by Half A World Away in 2002 & Things I Wish I Would Have Said in 2004. John has also written & co-written a number of songs on the last 5 album releases by the American band Venice (including: 2 Meter Sessies which earned a gold record award in Holland in 2003). Mark Lennon was born & raised in Venice, California & has been lead singer for the band Venice since 1978. This multi-talented artist has co-written many of the songs on Venice's albums & is also well known for his great vocal sound as a session singer. Mark has sung with Stevie Nicks, Don Henley, David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Phil Collins, Cher & many more.... TOUR SCHEDULE
It contains the songs: All songs written by John Vester except Matte Kudasai (King Crimson). |
May 11, 2005 - 3pm Update
Many of you may have noticed, as I did, that Ticketmaster is only
selling the $40 and $60 seats. If you're interested in sitting
"poolside," with private reception ($250) or without
($125), you can pick up those tickets from http://www.guacfund.org/. The ordering section
of the site is down right now, but it should be back in about
an hour.
May 11, 2005
Tickets for the Venice/Jackson Browne/Ozomatli show will go on
sale to the general public, via Ticketmaster, on Saturday, May
14, at 1:00pm. But you guys can get your good seats before
everyone else (and before the reserved sections sell out) by participating
in the internet presale. Anytime between noon today (Pacific
Standard Time) and 10pm Friday, click on this
link and
enter the password "HOB" (without the quotation marks).
May 9, 2005
There's happier news to report today. Venice, Jackson Browne
and Ozomatli will perform a benefit concert at the Memorial Greek
Theater at Santa
Monica High School,
on Sunday, June 5th, starting at 2:00pm. (Note, this is
not the Greek Theater in Griffith Park, this is at 601 Pico Blvd.
in Santa Monica, CA.) Venice will open the show, and will
also perform with Jackson Browne. Tickets are $40 for general
admission, $60 for reserved seats in the first ten rows of the
benches section, $125 for seating in nice lawn chairs at a section
in front of the stage ("poolside"), and $250 for that
same seating but also including a nice post-show reception with
all of the artists. Tickets go on sale at Ticketmaster this
coming Saturday (May 14), but watch this news page for a special
presale password, which will allow you, starting Wednesday (May
11), to buy your tickets before they go on sale to the public.
Reserved seating is limited and will sell out quickly, so
if these are the seats you want, I urge you to take advantage
of this presale. I'll post that information as soon as I
get it.
Being a benefit concert, your ticket purchase is a tax write off. Just so you know, according to the press release, the profits go to support "music programs in the Santa Monica Title 1 elementary schools (Edison, McKinley, Muir and Rogers) and their feeder middle schools (John Adams and Lincoln Middle Schools), as well as the For The Arts endowment. Specifically, the following music programs will be supported: 3rd grade general music, 4th and 5th grade choral music, and Dream Winds, which provides semi-private instrumental music instruction to disadvantaged students."

The English translation, after running it through the WorldLingo Translator, and then re-writing it to the best of my ability into colloquial English, is as follows:
|
Press Release: April 28, 2005 "Venice Gets Its Family Tree In Enschede" On May 13, 2005, 5 years of suffering will have taken place in Enschede since the terrible firework tragedy. Enschede has been shocked and in deep mourning, but many people have found consolation in music, and especially in the song "The Family Tree" by the American group Venice. During the subsequent benefit concert in the area of the University Twente, you could hear a pin drop during Venice's performance of "The Family Tree." Afterwards, Venice has returned to Enschede regularly to give concerts, and the song has really become an Enchede song. On May 13, Venice will give another concert at the Music Center in Enschede. Here too, it will be silent when "The Family Tree" is sung. To commemorate the link that exists between Enschede and the group Venice, there will be a special event. On that day, the municipality will award the band a real Family Tree. This will take place at 17.00. The spot where the tree will be planted is on the commemoration park Herdenkingspark Lasonderbleek. It will be planted in the triangle: De Tollensstraat, Lonnekerspoorlaan en de Roomweg. This will take place after an official commemoration ceremony in Enschede. For information concerning the event, please contact the official commemoration ceremony, at 053-4817089. For the activities surrounding Venice, you can get in touch with Tonnie Buitink: 06-53397976. The concert will take place in the Music Center in Enschede at 20.30. Information can be found at www.podiumtwente.nl. With warm regards, |

A quick correction. Apparently "Met het Oog op Morgen"
will be recorded and broadcast live between 11pm in the evening
and midnight. Not in the afternoon, as previously reported.
I apologize for any inconvenience this misinformation might
have caused.
April 26, 2005
On Saturday, May 7, Venice will appear on two different Holland
radio shows, and both will allow a small audience to attend.
Radio 1: Met het Oog op Morgen, broadcasted live at De Balie (next to Paradiso), Amsterdam, between 11pm and 12am. 2 or 3 songs accoustic + interview.
Radio 2: Tros Muziek Café, broadcasted live at Studio Plantage, Amsterdam, between 4pm and 6pm. 3 songs + interview.
If you can't be
there live, try to catch them on the radio!
April 20, 2005
This Friday morning, April 22, Venice's bassist Mark Harris will
appear on the television program "Live
with Regis and Kelly," performing with the band Fisher. Check local listings.
April 15, 2005
Bob
Philipse, Venice's Dutch drummer, has just debuted his own website,
bobphilipse.nl. It contains several
live clips from Venice's last tour. Check it out!
April 14, 2005
If you live in California and you haven't gotten your tickets
yet for this Saturday's show, you're not gonna want to miss this
one. It's Venice's triumphant return to the Galaxy Theater,
a fun venue with great sound and raked seating, so nobody ever
has trouble seeing the stage. Venice's new CD, "Pacific
Standard Time," will be on sale, and since this album is
not yet available in American stores, it's a rare opportunity
to pick up a copy without paying shipping prices. The backup
band will consist of Matt Laug on drums, Mark Harris on bass and
Chris Horvath on keyboards, a perfect lineup. And the opening
act is none other than fan favorite Tim Moyer, who will be selling
his own brand new CD, "Just Me," at this show for the
very first time! If you've got any friends or family who
have never been to a Venice show, bring them to this one and they're
guaranteed to have a great time and leave as fans. What
are you waiting for? Are you still here reading this? Turn
off your computer, race over to Ticketmaster, and get yourself
some tickets!

With just under 2 days to go, bidding is only up to $1,235. This
is still very affordable, especially if you split the cost 50/50
with a friend. Remember, it's a great charity (and hence
a tax write off!), and you get to spend a couple of hours connecting
with Kipp, Mark, Michael and Pat as human beings and as friends
in a way that you never could at a meet-and-greet. Is there
really any price that's too pricey for a reward so rewarding?
(I love my thesaurus.) Of course not! Head
here now,
you've got an auction to win!
February 6, 2005
For those of you who weren't aware, Venice's latest CD is an enhanced
disc. Put it into your computer, and it will access a special
webpage, containing exclusive journal entries and photographs.
Michael just updated the page with a new entry about Nick
Bult and Bob Philipse's recent trip to America. Check it
out!
In other news,
bidding for Venice's "Lunch with a Leader" auction is
currently at $1,035. With only four days left, there's still
plenty of time for you to get involved! Remember, we're
talking about a private meal with Kipp, Mark, Michael and Pat,
which could take place in either America or the Netherlands. The
winner's payment is a tax deduction because the auction is for
charity, and you can combine your funds with a friend and share
the prize together. So what are you waiting for? Head
over and
bid now!

Venice's latest album, "Pacific Standard Time," is maintaining
its place on Holland's Top 100 chart, ranking this week at #61.
Meanwhile, the second single has just been chosen, and it's
"I'll Keep My Fingers Crossed."
In other news,
there's only four more days until bidding begins on "Hey!
Mark just ate my appetizer! 2005." (I'm gonna keep
playing with the name until I find one that works.) Remember,
Americans and Dutch can all participate in this auction, and you
can pair up with a friend and bid together. Winner gets
a private meal with Kipp, Mark, Michael and Pat, and all the money
goes to charity so it's a tax write-off! More information
is here. Come back to the

January 9, 2005
Ladies and gentlemen, brand new to the worldwide web, may I present
to you, danngillen.com!
January 8, 2005
Got a couple of very exciting pieces of news today. The
first involves the two California shows that Venice is doing at
the end of January, at the Belly Up Tavern and at the Canyon Club.
Just confirmed to play in the band at these shows are Bob
Philipse on drums and Nick Bult on keyboards. Yes, for the
very first time, the two Dutch musicians from Venice's Holland
tours are flying to America to play in the band out here. We've
already heard how Nick sounds with Venice, because he's the keyboardist
on the "Live at the Royal Carre Theater" DVD. But
this is the first time we'll get to see him live! Also,
just coming off of an intensive two month tour playing most of
the songs from the new album, you can bet that this incarnation
of the band is extremely tight with them. This should be
really great, so if you don't have your tickets yet, go get 'em
now!
The other announcement is "Lennons Who Lunch 2005!" (Okay, that's just my name for it, it's really "Lunch with a Leader," but what the heck, I'm a Sondheim fan.) Once again, Venice is participating in a charity auction where the winner gets a private lunch with the guys, plus tickets and backstage passes to a concert. Both American or Dutch fans can participate, because the winning lunch can take place in either in California or in the Netherlands. The auction begins on February 1, so get ready.
And here's a little hint - you can pool your money with a friend, bid together, and share the prize if you win...
You can read about the charity here.
You can read about Venice's auction here.
You can read last year's winner's account of her winning lunch here.
Watch this page.
When the auction goes active on Ebay, I'll link to it here.
January 3, 2005
Fixed the link on "Sweet Aloha." Sorry about that!
January 2, 2005
Happy New Year everyone! To celebrate, here's Venice's full Festival Express concert
for you to download, burn, and listen to in your cars. Lots
of great rare covers here! Yes, it's the same Paradiso show
that's currently archived on fabchannel.com, but this is a soundboard
recording from Michael Lennon's personal collection, so the audio
is much better here. Enjoy!
