of Michael
van Coevorden:
The American
band Venice consists of cousins Kipp and Michael Lennon and
their brothers Pat and Mark Lennon (by the way, no relation to
John). The music this
quartet makes is in the same tradition as Crosby, Stills &
Nash and The
Eagles. When their title-less debut album from 1990 did
next to nothing,
Venice's activities were given low priority and the Lennons concentrated
mainly
on sessionwork. In that capacity, they've worked together
with such greats as Phil
Collins, Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson and
Bon Jovi. In
1997, their long awaited second album was released, called "Born
and Raised."
The glowing (translated very literally) album is full of
semi-acoustic
folk-rock and harmonies. Thanks to a sublime 2 Meter Sessie,
the Netherlands
were also introduced to the skills of the Lennon brothers (and
cousins,
of course). Although unmistakingly Venice, the new album
called "Spin Art"
reveals a more raw guitar sound.
